Do I Need a Lawyer if I Have a Good Broker?

It is not required by law, but it never hurts to have someone who knows the business on your side. Your attorney will preview all contracts and make sure they protect your interests, as well as assist if legal matters arise at any point in the process. Also, they will review the final papers and figures at closing to ensure you are awarded proper credit.

Contact a lawyer early on if you decide to do so, and price around. You should let them know that you are beginning to look for a new home, and they will tell you where they stand in this process. Lawyers specialize, just like doctors, so find one that suits you. They will let you know their terms, and when to contact them. (Usually later, when financial or contractual questions arise.)
